The Los Angeles-based couple shared the engagement news with their 122,000 YouTube channel subscribers in a video titled “The Most Romantic 7 Day Proposal”. Dhar and Laura filmed their trip to France, which involved Laura going on a scavenger hunt before she was eventually lead to a private terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower, where Dhar popped the question.
Laura’s 1.8 million followers on Instagram were also shown a series of pictures with her huge engagement ring on display. While many were quick to congratulate the couple, others mocked the sparkler over its size, quality, and design. Some critics on the social media platform described the ring as “fake,” “tacky” and “out-of-proportion”.
“That’s honestly the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen,” one user wrote. Another one commented: “I think it’s super tacky. It looks like something I would have received as a prize at an arcade when I was five and work for a week until the ring part snapped.”
Laura and Dhar seem unbothered by the ring-shamers, ignoring the negative remarks. They have also withheld from revealing the value of the jewellery
In April, the couple, which owns make-up subscription website Liveglam, said in a video that they almost broke up during a holiday to Hawaii. “It was still an amazing trip… until things got a little heated! Watch what happens when Laura G finds another girl texting Dhar Mann,” the influencers wrote in the vlog’s caption.
Dhar was previously engaged to his ex-girlfriend Lilly Ghalichi. Back in 2014, he asked the Shahs of Sunset star to marry him with a $1.2-million ring. Lilly said “yes”, but they eventually split and a wedding never took place.
