Australian influencer Sally Mustang has revealed that her Instagram account was deactivated after she posted a pregnancy picture deemed too “sexual.” On Monday, the Byron Bay yoga instructor said in an emotional video on husband Mitch Gobel’s Instagram account that losing her profile along with her 300,000-strong following had left her “scared” for her future and her heart “so sore.”
“I’m five months pregnant, and my whole livelihood has disappeared. It’s my creative outlet. It’s my memories. My voice, my community, my family, my businesses,” Mustang said through tears.
She expressed her disappointment with “whoever’s running the show there” and questioned the platform’s “absurd censorship rules,” which apparently stand against pregnant bodies, self-love, and empowerment.
Mustang announced her pregnancy earlier this month. The allegedly inappropriate photo showed the mom-to-be naked in a bathtub with her baby bump on display and her hands covering her breasts. The caption read: “bath with babe…also loving all the new roundness everywhere.” The content was flagged as too “sexual” and eventually removed along with Mustang’s entire profile. The social media star has since created a new one, but it also appears to have been shut down.
On Wednesday, Gobel updated the internet community, announcing that his wife’s original account had been restored. He thanked their fans for the support, which fueled the positive outcome. He wrote:
“Honestly, it blows me a way [sic] considering what we were up against, but as individuals, banning [sic] together and reaching out to our community, we’ve brought justice to the situation. The other side of this has brought my attention to the fact that despite our personal opinions on Instagram’s community guidelines, we do value @instagram as a place for expression, connection, and the source of our livelihood.”
This is not the first time Mustang and Gobel have drawn criticism. The couple is known for posting risqué and semi-naked images. They also have a website called Sex Is Art, where they talk about their sex life in depth.
